Wrong way in new dual carriageway

A Chalfont St Giles motorist who drove in the wrong direction along a dual carriageway was fined £10 at Great Missenden Court on Monday for driving without due care and attention.

Arthur Victor Adey, of Burtons Lane, Chalfont St Giles, pleaded guilty.

Chief Insp. J. Schofield, prosecuting, said a motorist travelling along the fairly new stretch of dual carriageway at Little Missenden saw Adey travelling towards him. Both cars swerved, and there was no collision.

Through his solicitor, Adey told the court that he had not travelled on the road since it became a dual carriageway.

He had collected two guests from Little Missenden, and when he reached the junction with the main road, he turned right. When he saw a car approaching, he realised his mistake and cross the central reservation to the correct side of the road.

Adey was talking to his passengers as he approached the main road, and he believed that was how he missed the road sign for the dual carriageway.
