Death of Mr. W. Jeffreys, Treherbert

        Thirty Years a Guardian.

We regret having to report the death of Mr. William Jeffreys, grocer, Trehebert, and one of the oldest Guardians of the Pontypridd Union, which took place on Saturday last. Deceased, who had reached the age of 66, was born at Penybont, Llangadock, Carmarthenshire. He served his apprenticeship with his uncle, Mr. J. W. Jones, Aberdare. He came to Treherbert at the age of 23 to manage the premises then known as the "Hen Shop Company," eventually becoming proprietor of the business.

His career as a Guardian extends back over a period of thirty years, broken only by a lapse of six years. He was re-elected five years ago. He was also sitting member of the Local Burial Committee, and afterwards member of the Rhondda District Council. During his term of office as Guardian the six cottage homes came into existence, and also the workhouse of Llwynypia. He was also an honorary member of the M.U.O.F., and treasure of the local branch of "Hen Gymry." In politics and religion he was a staunch Liberal of the old school, and a member of Ebenezer (W.C.) Chapel.

For the last twelve months he had suffered considerably from heart trouble, and about a fortnight ago was attended for strangulated hernia, eventually passing away after a painful illness on Saturday last. He leaves a widow and two children to mourn his loss.

The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon and was very largely attended.
