        EX-COUNCILLOR

        Death of Mr. Latimer Thomas

The death is announced at the home of his son, 12, Collington-avenue, Bexhill, Sussex, of Mr Latimer Thomas, former Bristol City Councillor and insurance broker. He was 86.

Mr. Thomas served on the City Council for ten years. He won a seat as a Liberal in 1904, lost it in the following year, and stood again in 1920, when he was elected and subsequently served on various committees.

He was a member of Redland Park Congregational Church for 60 years, and was associated with Bristol Congregational Itinerant Society. He was also at one time a lay pastor at Avonmouth.

Mr. Thomas, who was an original member of the Liberal Club - now the Bristol Club - left Bristol in 1948 to live with his son, the Rev. Arthur L Thomas, at Bexhill. His wife, with whom he celebrated his golden wedding in 1940, died recently.

He leaves another son, Mr. Bernard Thomas, who is doing educational work in India.

The funeral takes place at Henleaze Congregational Church on Tuesday at 11.30 a.m., followed by interment at Shirehampton Cemetery.
