MR. D. HANNAFORD.
The death of Mr. David Hannaford removed a citizen widely known throughout the middle north and the south-eastern parts of the State, on October 14. For a few months he was not enjoying good health, but just prior to his death had made a marked improvement. Mr. Hannaford was born at "Wattle Vale," Riverton, in 1887. He followed farming for a number of years, and then took up the motor service between Millicent and Kalangadoo, which was opened up in January, 1914, this being the pioneer motor service in the South-East. Roads in these days were in a shocking condition, some parts being only bush tracks. Mr. Hannaford held a large connection in the motor service, and was always ready to give a helping hand. He conducted the service for over ten years, and did not on one occasion miss a train. He also carried mails for the Postmaster-General for several years. In 1917 he married Nellie, the youngest daughter of Mr. B. E. Lykke, of Alberton, and resided at Millicent until recently. He associated himself with many movements for the welfare of the town, and was connected with the Methodist Church choir. Of recent months he was residing at Fussel-place, Alberton. He left a widow and one daughter.
