Memorial service held for former Appleton man killed in Colorado
A memorial service for Arthur Lewis Evans, 32, former Appleton man who was killed Jan. 14 in an avalanche in Garfield, Colo., was conducted Friday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Evans and a skiing companion, Keith Rush, 22, Pueblo, Colo., were in an unmarked area of Monarch Pass in Taylor Gulch, which is between 9,000 and 10,000 feet in elevation. Evans' body was found buried in the snow at the bottom of the snow slide. Rush's body was recovered two days later.
Evans, who attended Beloit College and was graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Evans, 512 E. Grant St. He is survived by his parents, two brothers and a grandmother.
The parents will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Sunday at First Congregational United Church of Christ.
