        Mr. Arnold Evans

        512 E. Grant St.

        Died on Wednesday, September 21, 1988, following a brief illness. He was born December 29, 1911, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He received his Law Degree in San Francisco at Hastings College of Law, University of California and was a member of the California State Bar. He and his family moved to Appleton in 1951. He founded the Arnold Evans Insurance Company and operated it for 30 years, retiring in 1984. He served as President of the Appleton Downtown Kiwanis and was Lieutenant Govenor of the Wisconsin/Upper Michigan Kiwanis District. He also served as chairman of the Tri-City Council of the Boy Scouts of America and of the Outagamie County Red Cross and was active on the Board of the Appleton YMCA. His professional activities included terms as president of the Wisconsin Professional Insurance Agents and member of the National Board of Professional Agents of America. In 1961, he was named Distinguished Citizen by the Appleton Junior Chamber of Commerce. His survivors include his wife, Dorothy Ann Lewis Evans; a son, David Arnold Evans and his wife, Ulla; and grandsons: Thomas Arnold Evans and Carl Erik Evans. David Evans is the Upjohn Professor of Life Sciences, Kalamazoo College, Michigan. His son, Trevon James Evans and his wife, Patricia and grandson, E. Graham Evans. Trevor Evans is a Foreign Service Officer in the U.S. Department of State. He is further survived by a sister-in-law: Mrs Bernard Peck, Bend Oregon. He was preceded in death by his son, Arthur Lewis Evans, on January 14, 1975. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 23, 1988, at 3 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 724 E. South River St. with the Rev. John T. McFadden officiating. His family suggests that memorial gifts be sent to Boy Scouts of America, American Red Cross, or the Outagamie County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. The Wichmann Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

        Evans, Dorothy Ann (Lewis)

        Dorothy Ann (Lewis) Evans, of Appleton, age 93, died on Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at Rennes Health Center. Dorothy Ann was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, on March 5, 1912, daughter of the late Arthur Leslie and Mary (Blean) Lewis. She married Arnold Evans on December 31, 1936, and he preceded her in death on September 21, 1988. Dorothy Ann lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, until graduating from the University of Utah, specializing in music education. She then completed postgraduate work at the University of California, Berkeley.

        Dorothy Ann came to Appleton in 1951, serving on the boards of directors of VNA, Salvation Army, YMCA Auxiliary, Appleton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Actors Repertory Theater. She was also President of Fox Valley Symphony League, and Youth Choir Director at First Congregational U.C.C. She was active in PEO, Leaven, Habitat for Humanity, and the American Red Cross.

        Dorothy Ann's life was filled with music. She taught music in public schools in Utah and California. She was a member of the choir and served as pianist and an organist at the Appleton Congregrational Church, and played at services at several other Appleton churches. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the music program at Lawrence University.

        When she and Arnold first arrived in Appleton, they formed the Belles and Beaux square dancing club. They were Green Bay Packer season ticket holders through the Lombardi years and after, never missing a game, snow or shine. She enjoyed downhill and cross country skiing well into her 80s. She was an avid traveler; first with Arnold, and then after his passing with her sister Hettie Peck. In her travels, she visited many of the popular destinations of the world, but did not hesitate to strike out for the less accessible, such as Malaysia, Pakistan, New Zealand, Slovenia and Korea.

        She is survived by her sons, David Arnold Evans and Trevor James Evans; her sister, Hettie Peck; three grandchildren, Thomas, Carol and Graham Evans; four great-grandchildren: Kameran and Ian Dage, and Nathaniel and Olivia Evans.

        Dorothy Ann was preceded in death by her son, Arthur Lewis Evans.

        The memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 20, 2006, at FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 724 East South River Street, Appleton, with Rev. John McFadden officiating. Visitation will be held following the service. Her family suggests that memorial gifts be sent to Fox Valley Symphony League, American Red Cross, or Leaven, Inc.

        Memorial service held for former Appleton man killed in Colorado

        A memorial service for Arthur Lewis Evans, 32, former Appleton man who was killed Jan. 14 in an avalanche in Garfield, Colo., was conducted Friday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Kalamazoo, Mich.

        Evans and a skiing companion, Keith Rush, 22, Pueblo, Colo., were in an unmarked area of Monarch Pass in Taylor Gulch, which is between 9,000 and 10,000 feet in elevation. Evans' body was found buried in the snow at the bottom of the snow slide. Rush's body was recovered two days later.

        Evans, who attended Beloit College and was graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Evans, 512 E. Grant St. He is survived by his parents, two brothers and a grandmother.

        The parents will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Sunday at First Congregational United Church of Christ.
