Narrative

This appears to be the same pub that is still trading as the Heathcock at 58-60 Bridge Street, Llandaff, although sources are somewhat sketchy about its history.

The current building is listed[1], and is believed to have been constructed "slightly earlier" than 1880. It is shown on the 1st edition OS map of 1880[2] as three buildings, but is labelled "Heathcock Inn", suggesting that it was already a pub by that time.

The PubsCymru website[3] believes that it was originally two houses and was converted to a pub in the 1930s, but this contradicts the 1880 OS map on both counts.

Looking at households on the same census page in 1841 and 1851 does not help much, as the properties immediately before and after don't have an address listed. However other properties on the previous/next page are at least in the same general area.

My conclusion therefore is that it must be the same pub. The only source that suggests otherwise is a secondary source that contradicts the primary sources twice, and so is not a reliable source. It seems very unlikely that a Heathcock Inn existed on a different site in 1851, but was gone and replaced by the current site by 1880, which was survived to this day. The listing record only estimates the construction date, and in any case the architectural style suggests an older building.
