Citation:
RHYDYFELIN AND HAWTHORN
THE DEATH occurred on May 8 of Mr Gwilym Ewart Preece, 62 Oak Street, Rhydyfelin. Mr Preece was 45 years of age and a native of Treforest. He had been a civilian employed by the R.A.F. for the past four years. He was a member of the Old Comrades' Association, British Legion and the 5th Welch. He was also secretary of the Treforest Darts Team. He was the eldest son of Mrs Sarah Ann Preece and the late Mr John Preece, 61 Wood Road, Pontypridd. Interment was made at Glyntaff on May 10, the Rev. F. Scott, minister of Calvary English Baptist Church, officiating. He is survived by a widow and eight daughters. The mourners were: Messrs Jack Preece, brother; Len Jones, Arthur James, Albert Martin, Billy Hallett, Jack Weal, Charles Bines, brothers-in-law; Roy Elleston and Roy Marsh, sons-in-law; Parry Jones, William Field, Mervyn Weaver, Vivian Davies, nephews; David Shoemark, Bert Preece, David Herbert, Jacky Weal, cousins; William Parry, Arthur Humphries, Thias Parry, uncles; Leonard Thomas (senior), Len Thomas (junior), R. Elleston, friends. Many friends met at the cemetery. The bearers were representatives of the British Legion. Mourners at the house were: Mrs Mary Preece, widow; Iris, Violet, Mona, Mary, Jean, Gwyneth, June and Kathleen, daughters; Mrs Sarah Ann Preece, mother; Lena, Emmie and Gwyneth, sisters; Blodwen Evans, May Hallett, Lily Weal, sisters-in-law; Hilda Davies, niece; Winnie Herbert, Gwen and Maud Preece, cousins; Nancy Field, cousin; Mesdames Olive Parry, Mabel Parry, Alice Field, aunts; Margaret Thomas and Maud Edwards, friends. Floral tributes were from: Loving Wife, Mary; Mam; Jackie, Molly and Sonny; Iris and Bill; Violet and Roy; Lena and Len; Emmie and Arthur; Gwyneth and Albert; Willie, Nancy and Children; Bert, Maud and Gwen; May, Vi and Betty; Blod, Joe and Hilda; Auntie Olive and Family; Betty and Joyce; Charlie and Sarah; Jack, Lil and Jackie; Officers and Staff, R.A.F.
