A CHILD DROWNED IN A MUG OF WATER. - On Wednesday forenoon, a little boy, named Thomas Kennedy, a year and nine months old, son of Timothy Kennedy, labourer, of Withnell, was found drowned in a mug of water, in a house occupied by a man named Christopher Hargreaves, in Withnell. From what the mother of the deceased states, it appears that the last time she saw the deceased alive was about eleven o'clock on Wednesday forenoon, playing in the road near Hargreaves's house, which was about fifty yards from his own home. Towards twelve o'clock she went in search of him, and at length found him dead, with his head and neck in a mug of water, in the back kitchen of Hargreaves's dwelling. The mug was about half full of water. The child must have entered the house from the back way, for Mrs. Hargreaves, who was in the front place, neither saw nor heard any one until the deceased's mother came to look for him. He had been nursed at Hargreaves's up to March last, and he had been in the habit of going to the house by himself. - Mr. M. Myres, coroner, held an inquest over the body of the deceased, yesterday, at the Oak Tree Inn, Withnell. - The jury, after hearing the evidence, returned a verdict of "Accidentally drowned."
