        Obituary - Mrs. Amelia Maddock.

It seems but a few years ago that Robert Maddock, the Carbonear principal of the firm of J. & R. Maddock, in the midst of his many activities was called to his eternal rest, and yet over three decades have passed since then, and on Thursday came the call to his widow, Mrs Amelia Maddock, a lady who, during her long and useful life had occupied a position of much prominence in the Conception Bay town, and whose influence and usefulness is continued to-day in the persons of her children. The late Mrs. Amelia Maddock was one of a large family of brothers and sisters, most of whom have passed to their reward. The late Messrs. James and William Guy were her brothers. Over half a century ago she became the wife of Mr. Robert Maddock, an enterprising English man who, with his brother John, built up an extensive business conducted, since the death of his father, by Messrs. Joseph and John Maddock. She leaves to mourn the loss of their well loved mother five daughters, Mrs. A. D. Boyle, wife of Dr. Boyle of Carbonear, Mrs. E. Cram of Green's Harbor, Mrs. Hilyard of Blackhead, Mrs. F. R. Matthews, wife of the Rev. F. R. Matthews, B A., now of Carbonear, and Mrs. W. H. Butt of that town; three sons, Joseph, for several years M. H. A. for Carbonear, John, bis business partner, and Rev. R. H. Maddock, a Methodist Minister. Amongst her many grand-children is Professor William Boyle of Alberta University, now engaged in war work in the Old Land, and some who are actively engaged in the defence of that Homeland and Empire.
