OBITUARY.
FUNERAL OF MR. T. BEYNON EVANS, J.P.
TRIBUTES TO A PROMINENT PONTYPRIDD MAGISTRATE.
The funeral of Mr. T. B. Evans, J.P., of Bristol House, Cilfynydd, Pontypridd, took place on Thursday at Glyntaff Cemetery. The first part of the service was held at Moriah Congregational Church, Cilfynydd, where the Rev. Richard Williams (the pastor) officiated, assisted by the Rev. Edryd Jones, of Bradner-street, London, the late pastor. Well-known hymns were sung in Welsh, Mr. T. Llewellyn Jenkins being the organist.
Addresses testifying to the useful services rendered by Mr. Evans were delivered by Mr. H. H. Evans, J.P., agent to the Albion Colliery, Cilfynydd (on behalf of the public authorities), and Mr. William Jones, J.P., representing the local magistrates. Mr. Jones remarked that for many years he was a colleague of Mr. Evans', and he found that his desire was always to do good for his fellow-men. For the ward in which he lived he did valuable work. All he could do he did, very often at considerable sacrifice.
The mourners included Mrs. T. B. Evans (widow), Mr. Steve Evans (son) and Mrs. Evans; Mrs. Bessie Williams (daughter) and Mr. Williams; the Rev. D. Silyn Evans (brother) and Mrs. Evans, Aberdare; Mr. John Evans (brother), Aberdare; Mr. Henry Evans (brother), Carmarthen, and Miss Evans; Mr. Henry Davies, Carmarthen, and Miss Annie Davies; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Davies, Skewen, Mr. and Mrs. Vaughan Davies, Skewen, and Miss Ethel Davies; Mr. Tom Davies, Poplars, Cilfynydd; Mr. and Mrs. Williams, Coedpenmaen; Mrs. Davies, Porth; Mr. Emdar Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Beynon Evans, Mr. Edgar Williams, and Mr. Rees John Evans, Aberdare. Milton Jones (director of education), and others wrote regretting their inability to be present.
Marching in front of the funeral cortege were about fifty members of the Glamorgan Constabulary, headed by Deputy-chief-constable John Williams and Supt. J. L. Rees, of the Treharris Division. Among the magistrates present were Messrs. John Evans, T. Taylor, Hopkin Morgan, Ben Davies, J. John, and Stephen Adams, and Alderman E. H. Fleming, while the members of the Pontypridd Council who attended were Messrs. Arthur Seaton, J.P., W. J. Davies, E. T. Jones, and J. Phillips, and the Rev. D. G. Hughes. The local board of guardians was represented by Mr. Ivor Thomas (late chairman), Mrs. Gwilym Thomas (who was accompanied by Mr. Thomas), Mr. Llewellyn Williams, and the Rev. E. Lewis (Cilfynydd). In addition to others mentioned in connection with governing bodies, the Merlin Lodge had representatives in Messrs. A. Lewis, A. J. Bray, W. H. Edwards, T. Parry-Thomas, and Huw T. Richards.
