        The Late Mr D. Jones, Cilwern.

        One of the oldest inhabitants of the Llandilo district has been called away in the person of Mr David Jones, Cilwern, who after a long life of nearly 84 years, died on Tuesday the 28th ult. The deceased gentleman had enjoyed excellent health until a little while ago, when many thought that the end was near, but with the help of Dr Davies, Llandilo, together with the great care of his beloved wife, Mrs Jones, he recovered remarkably well, was able to go about, and was seen on two occasions in his old place at Salem Chapel. However about a fortnight previous to his death, he had a severe attack of illness, which necessitated an operation; no time was lost in conveying him to Swansea Hospital. The operation was quite successful, but on account of his age he got weaker until he peacefully passed away on the above date.

        One cannot speak too highly of the fine qualities the deceased possessed, being of a fine disposition, beyond kind to all, and a very faithful member of the Church of God at Salem during his long life.

        His funeral, which was one of the largest witnessed for some time, took place on the following Saturday the 1st inst., at 1.30 p.m. A short service was held at the house, when a portion of Scripture was read by the Rev D. Bowen, Hermon; and the Rev T. Thomas, Elim, offered a very effective prayer. His minister, Rev Stephen Thomas, afterwards gave a short discourse from Proverbs, 27thc., and the 10th verse. The Rev W. H. Harris, Penrheol, gave out the parting hymn before starting for Taliaris Churchyard, which is the burial place of the family. The Rev J. D. Jones, Cellan, who is related to the family, was also present. A great number of friends and relations had come together on the occasion, and it was evident from the numerous carriages that one loved by many was buried on that day.

        The chief mourners were Mrs Jones (widow), Mr David John Jones, Mr Thomas Benjamin Jones (sons), and Miss Priscilla Anne Jones (daughter).

        Much sympathy is felt with the bereaved family at losing one of the kindest of husbands, and a most tender-hearted father; so their loss is very great indeed. It is very difficult to get the names of the numerous relations of the family from both sides, as one would wish; it must suffice to note that they came from a great distance and showed how they loved the one that had left his earthy tabernacle, also showed great respect and sympathy with the family of Cilwern. We understand that a memorial service will be held to the remembrance of Mr Jones at Salem Chapel next Sunday, where he and his predecessors have worshiped faithfully as loyal Christians. One can firmly predict that the dear ones who have lost their father will faithfully tread in his footsteps, which will give great consolation to their dear mother in her deep sorrow.
