Matthew Nicks 1a 2a 2b 2c 2d 2e 2f 2g 2h 2i 2j 2k 3a 2l 4 5a

Birth Name Matthew Nicks
Gender male
Age at Death about 71 years

Narrative

This Matthew does not appear to have been baptised. The following evidence connects him to his birth family:

1. His uncle Francis Nicks's will mentions "Matthew Nicks son of my late deceased brother Matthew Nicks". A reasonably exhaustive search shows no other likely candidates for that Matthew.

2. His marriage is witnessed by an Ann Nicks. Comparison of the signatures shows that this is the same Ann Nicks that married John Snow. Ann and John's marriage was witnessed by a Matthew Nicks, and comparison of those signatures shows that it is the same Matthew. This strongly suggests (but does not prove) that they are brother and sister.

3. I have DNA matches with descendents of this Matthew that cannot be explained any other way.
